FRED SHAVERS JR.

DeKALB, Texas—Fred Garland Shavers Jr., 73, of DeKalb died Thursday, July 13, 2017, at his home. Mr. Shavers was born April 17, 1944. He was a retired security guard at Day & Zimmerman and attended Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Cathedral, Shreveport, La. He was preceded in death by one son, Fred Shavers III. Survivors include his wife, Dayte Hodge Shavers of DeKalb; seven daughters, Shanta Hall of Dallas, Kim Morrow and Shannon Shavers of Houston, Stacy Shavers of DeKalb, Shavada Shavers and LaTonya Franklin of Little Rock and Nephritiri Braxton of Clearwater, Fla.; two brothers, James Shavers of Texarkana and Paul Shavers of Oakland, Calif.; two sisters, Barbara Shavers Holloway and Marian Shavers Archie of Oakland; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, DeKalb, with Bishop Larry L. Brandon officiating. Burial will be in Garland Cemetery under direction of Bates Family Funeral Home.
