Frank A. Boutwell

Frank A. Boutwell of New Boston, Texas died Sunday, July 16, 2017 in Texarkana, Texas. Frank was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 27, 1922. He was reared, mostly, in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Southern Methodist University in Social Sciences and a Master's Degree from Garrett Seminary, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Reverend Boutwell married Glennis Forrester from New Boston, Texas who was a psychiatric nurse then serving at the VA hospital in Houston. He always joked that she gave up a whole ward of men and took him on as a full-time case. In 1947, he began his ministry as Campus Minister at Sam Houston University. He was the founding pastor of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bryan. During his ministry, Frank served the following churches: First United Methodist Church in Humble, TAPP Memorial United Methodist Church in New Boston, La Porte United Methodist Church, Wesley United Methodist Church in Tyler, Asbury United Methodist Church in Pasadena, Tomball United Methodist Church, St. Marks United Methodist Church in Baytown, and First United Methodist Church Marshall. He concluded his ministry as the District Superintendent of the Texarkana District Churches. In addition to his ministry, Frank was a bee keeper, artist and wood carver. A few of his other interests included gardening, calligraphy, and painting. After retirement in 1992, he and his wife moved to the log house at Woodstock Community, about 10 miles north of New Boston. They then moved to the Cornerstone Methodist Retirement Community in Texarkana in 2007. He is survived by wife, Glennis Forrester Boutwell; their children, Lin Boutwell and his wife, Mary; Wesley Boutwell; their daughter Monica Hudson and her husband Mike; four grandchildren, Blake and Brett Boutwell, Samantha Owen and her husband Chris; and Hope Hudson; one great grandchild, Finley Owen; and one sister Margaret Harris of Tennessee. A copper plaque, given to him by his wife many years ago and continues to hang on his study wall, bears the motto: "Called or not called; God comes." A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Tapp Memorial United Methodist Church in New Boston, Texas under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home of De Kalb, Texas.
