Mary Kay Rountree, 71, of Texarkana, TX, died Thursday, May 17, 2018, at her home. She was born March 31, 1947, in Ft. Smith, AR to Robert and Lee Mondy. She graduated from St. Paul High School in Pocahontas, AR and received her nursing diploma from St. Vincent nursing school in Little Rock, AR. While working as a Registered Nurse at the University Hospital in Little Rock, AR, she met her future husband to be, Glen Rountree. They were married in 1970 after Glen returned from Vietnam and were stationed in San Antonio, TX. In 1972, they returned to Little Rock and Glen started a residency in urology at the University of Arkansas Medical Center. Mary Kay worked in CCU and their daughter, Kristi, was born in 1974. In 1976, upon completing the residency, they moved to Texarkana, TX and Glen joined Southern Clinic. That same year, their second child, Brian, was born and in 1987, they were blessed with a third child, Corey Michael. After the birth of Brian, who had Down's Syndrome, Mary Kay devoted her time to caring for him and retired from nursing. Besides her nursing career, she was an avid gardener and active volunteer in Special Olympics. She loved her church, family, and greatly enjoyed participating in the Angel Quilt group at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church and was an active member in the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lee Mondy. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Glen Rountree; one daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Michael White; two sons, Brian Rountree and Dr. Corey Rountree; two granddaughters, Riley and Reese White; six brothers, Pat Mondy, Tom Mondy, Rob Mondy and wife, Trinket, Jim Mondy and wife, Janie, Paul Mondy, and Larry Mondy; one sister, Jane Moss and husband, Mark; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 21, 2018, at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Brad Morgan officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. at Friendship Cemetery near Magnolia, AR, under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas Blvd. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 P.M. Sunday, May 20, 2018, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas Blvd. Memorial contributions may be made to Opportunities, Inc., or Williams Memorial United Methodist Church.
