David Jesse Bentley, 79, of Wake Village, TX, died Monday, August 12, 2019, at his home after a long struggle with a debilitating pulmonary disease. He was born on July 11, 1940, in Texarkana, TX, to Jesse E. Bentley and Thelma Keller Bentley, who preceded him in death. David attended Texarkana, TX, schools and graduated in 1958. He attended Texarkana College and served 4 years in the United States Air Force. He began working for Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, and after a 35 year career, retired in 2006. David was a model car enthusiast, many times completing one in a week's time. He was a former member of the Texarkana Gun Club, having won trophies for his marksmanship. Hunting, fishing, and camping were his happiness. Survivors include his son, Alan Jesse Bentley of Wake Village, TX; granddaughter, Kristen Van Gorp and partner, Doug, of Fort Lupton, CO; step-daughter, Virginia Marie Morton and husband, Ronald; grandson, Brian Morton and wife, Melinda; two great-grandsons, Brendan and Payton Morton; dear friend and former wife, Lucy Howton, all of Texarkana, TX; one brother, Donald Bentley and sister-in-law, Terry, of Tyler, TX; niece, Tamara Tanner and husband, Ross, of Anchorage, AK; and nephew, Timothy Bentley of Tyler, TX. At the request of Mr. Bentley, he will be cremated and there will be no public service. The family will honor him with a private memorial at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
