CORNELL SMITH

Cornell Harty Smith, 85, of Texarkana, Texas, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, in Grapevine, Texas. Mr. Smith was born July 8, 1933, in Kildare, Texas. He was retired from the Army and Liberty-Eylau ISD, a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, Texarkana Mental Health and Rehabilitation Board, a deacon and Sunday School teacher with Mount Orange Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Byron Erwin Smith and Keith Lenard Smith of Colleyville, Texas, and Cornell Harty Smith II of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Alicia Renee' Smith-Washington of Keller, Texas; three grandchildren, Jordan Taylor Smith of Las Colinas, Texas, McKinley Grant Smith of Colleyville and Gregory LaCharles Washington II of Keller, Texas; one great-grandson, Theo M. Smith of Washington, D.C.; his former wife, Fekisha McKinley Smith of Colleyville; one special friend, Erma Brockman of Texarkana; and a number of other relatives. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Orange Baptist Church with Bishop Johnny Riley officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery under direction of Haynes Mortuary. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
