IVERSON SHAVERS

DeKALB, Texas—Iverson E. Shavers, 101, of DeKalb died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at his home. Mr. Shavers was born Oct. 20, 1917, in Garland community. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the Army, a rancher, a member of Bowie County Housing Authority, DeKalb School Board and St. Mary of the Cenacle Catholic Church, New Boston, Texas, and a World War II and Korean War veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Cookman Shavers. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael E. and Dr. Sandra D. Embler; one daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Frances L. Shavers and George Horn Esq.; two sisters, Dr. Mattie Shavers Johnson and Jenna Shavers Benton; and a number of other relatives. Mass services with military honors will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Cenacle Catholic Church. Burial will be in Garland Community Cemetery under direction of Bates Family Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.
