Martine Collins Ferguson

Martine Collins Ferguson passed from this life on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bobby F. Ferguson two years prior. Born and raised in Texarkana, AR, and a 1950 graduate of Arkansas High, Martine and Bobby were married in 1954. She received a Bachelors degree from Texas Woman's University, and a Masters in Home Economics from Kansas State University. Upon returning to Texarkana she began her teaching career in Redwater, TX. She earned her second Masters of Science degree from East Texas State University and taught in the Texarkana Arkansas School District until her retirement in 1994. Martine was a long time and faithful member of Beech Street First Baptist Church where she taught Adult Sunday School classes for more than 30 years. She volunteered her time to many community organizations over the years. She served as a board member and later president of the Texarkana Public Library and was appointed to the Arkansas State Library Board. She also had been active in Delta Kappa Gamma, Junior League of Texarkana and Texarkana Literacy Council as well as volunteering with Hands On Texarkana. Martine is survived by her three children and their families, Liz and Rusty Suggett, Collins Ferguson, and Katherine and Joseph Hosey, grandchildren Stephanie East, Stephen Ferguson, Melanie Mosley, Andrew Ferguson and William Hosey, as well as 4 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Thalia Oliphant from Dallas, TX and Dr Linda Cork from Palo Alto, CA. Family will receive friends Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm at East Funeral Home-Downtown. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 18, 2019 at East Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. Richard Posey officiating followed by internment at East Memorial Gardens.
