Sylvia Harris Allen was born June 25, 1921 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma, to John and Ollie Harris. She passed away peacefully May 11, 2019, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, to be with her Lord at the age of 97. She was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church in Queen City, Texas. Sylvia, along with her husband, Melvin, was a former longtime business owner in Atlanta, Texas. Until her health failed, she was active in her church, AARP and many other volunteer organizations. In the early 90's, she started a line dancing group called the Dancing Grannies. They performed throughout East Texas. Sylvia was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Allen; two children, Wesley Everett, Sr., and Kenneth D. Allen; two grandsons, Wesley G. Everett, Jr., and Jeffrey Allen; one great-great-granddaughter, Chrislee Steed; six sisters; and one brother. Sylvia is survived by one daughter, Judy Epperson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one son Ronnie Allen (Joyce) of Parma, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Patti Everett of Atlanta, Texas; grandchildren Jerry Steed (Christy), Deanna Plunk, Scott Steed (Karen), Jason Everett (Tara), Zack Everett (Ashley), Keeley Dobbs (Andrew), Dibrell Lee and Eric Allen; 30 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Hanner Funeral Service Chapel, with Brother Ron Riemar officiating. Burial will follow in Laws Chapel Cemetery.
