Alfred Austin Tennison, Jr., 81, of Texarkana, AR, died on Saturday, September 14, 2019, in a local hospital. He was born October 4, 1937, in Texarkana, TX, to Alfred A. Tennison, Sr., and Edith Dorsey Tennison. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR, and was a proud patriot of his country, having served in the United States Army. He attended Beech Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana, AR, and his family remembers him for his faith in God. He loved bluegrass and old-time Gospel music. His family recalls his love of gardening (especially tomatoes) and gathering pecans, many times giving them away. He was a highly intelligent man of his word, who loved his family, including his dogs. He also had a sense of humor and is remembered as a prankster as well. Many will remember him in the business community as serving as the office manager for Tennison Brothers of Texarkana, Inc., a sheet metal manufacturing company. He has left to cherish his memory, his wife of 59 years, Nancy Tilmon Tennison; his children, Trip Tennison and wife, Tonya, of Bryant, AR, Mary Tennison of Texarkana, Texas, John Tennison and wife, Andrea Iken Tennison, of San Antonio, TX, and Joseph Tennison and wife, Brenda of Bryant, AR; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas Chapel, 3515 Texas Blvd. Private burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 7:30 P.M. Friday, September 20, 2019, at Texarkana Funeral Home, 3515 Texas Blvd. Online registration is at www.texarkanafuneralhome.com.
