Loyd Ray Roper, age 82, of Texarkana, Arkansas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 16, 2019. Bro. Roper was born January 5, 1937, in Logan County, Arkansas to William and Bertha Roper. His family moved to England, Arkansas when he was four years old. He graduated from England High School in 1955. It was there he met and married the love of his life Pasty McKenzie Roper. Loyd was called into the ministry in April 1962. He was ordained in August of that year by County Line Missionary Baptist Church of England. His first pastorate was with Orion Missionary Baptist Church of the Redfield Community. He received his Seminary Degree and Honorary Doctorate Degree from Texas Baptist Institute in Henderson, Texas. Bro. Roper was a man of God who pastored for over fifty years. He had a servant's heart and truly loved the people he served. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Pasty Roper of Texarkana, Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Rene and Mickey Wilburn of Atlanta, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sharon Roper of Texarkana, Texas; four grandchildren, Aaron Wilburn of Atlanta, Texas, Alan Wilburn of Atlanta, Texas, Ben Roper and his wife Amber of Texarkana, Texas, Ethan Roper and his wife Kristina of Charleston, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Kadyn and Kolton Roper of Texarkana, Texas; and a host of friends, church family, and other relatives. A Celebration of Bro. Roper's life will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 21, 2019, at Northern Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.
