TEXARKANA, Texas -- Perrenial playoff contender North Lamar swept Liberty-Eylau Tuesday in a District 15-4A volleyball match at the Rader Dome.
The Pantherettes remained in third place in the league standings behind Pleasant Grove and Paris with a 25-17, 25-6, 25-13 victory over the Lady Leopards.
"North Lamar has a really good group of players, and you can tell some of those girls play year round," L-E first-year head coach Regina Estrada said. "Our girls have gotten more invested in volleyball; we have a few asking about playing club ball.
"The scores all season have not reflected how well we've progressed, but behind the scenes, knowing where we were and where we're headed, I'm happy with our progress. We're going in the right direction."
After a tooth-and-nail opening set went to NL, the visiting team rallied out to a quick leads of 6-0 and 10-1 in the second game. Up 15-6, Logan Dority served out the set for the Pantherettes (17-10, 4-2) with 10 in a row.
Liberty-Eylau (7-21, 0-6) kept pace with North Lamar in the third set for the first 15 points, but the visitors went on a 12-2 streak to take a commanding 19-9 advantage. L-E was never able to recover.
"I have seen teams fall behind 10 (points) and they stop swinging, and our girls don't do that," Estrada said. "That tells me they've got a lot of fight. We've still got things to work on, but we're definitely making progress."
The Pantherettes won the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-22. Michaela Pulliam led the Leopards with 10 service points.
Liberty-Eylau visits Pleasant Grove Friday.
