TEXARKANA, Texas -- Music of Brahms for Violin and Piano will be performed at the Stilwell Humanities Music Hall Thursday morning.
The performance will be presented by Kiril Laskarov (violin) and Mary Scott Smith (piano). Sonata No. 2 in A major and Scherzo (Sonatensatz) will be performed.
The concert will begin at 11 a.m. and should conclude around 12 p.m. or earlier. There is no cost for the event, which is open to the public.
"The music hall seats about 120 people, so when you come to a concert here, you can see beautifully and hear beautifully," Mary Scott Smith said. "This is the meaning of what we call chamber music. It's not an orchestra, a band or a choir. It's not a large group, but it's just several players in a setting where you can hear each one really well. It's much more intimate."
Smith said about 30 minutes of music will be played, after a brief introduction. The music was composed by Johannes Brahms.
Smith is a professor of music at Texarkana College, and plays with the Texarkana Symphony.
Kiril Laskarov plays in the Arkansas Symphony, as well as the Texarkana Symphony.
"Kiril plays all over the state," Smith said. "He's really a fabulous musician and a wonderful colleague and person to work with."
