Texarkana school district hosts community summit to help guild strategic plans

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texarkana Independent School District will hold a community summit on Thursday, which will allow for input that could potentially affect the district's strategic planning process for the next five years.

"Education across the United States has experienced changes in terms of how we educate our students," Chief Communications Officer Tina Veal-Gooch said. "This strategic planning process will allow us to work with our stakeholders to get their input and update their mission, vision and goals for the next five years.

Over the course of the next several months, TISD will be implementing a strategic planning process in an effort to evaluate the district's strengths and challenges in meeting the needs of students. This plan guides the district during a five-year span on which directions to take in serving students.

The plan is titled "Imagine 2026."

A community survey will be taken before and after the summit to gather input about what programs or aspects of TISD need to be added or removed.

In the last TISD Board meeting, Veal-Gooch outlined the next steps in the planning process, which are as follows:

-- Community Summit, Oct. 21

-- Establish strategic planning committee, October 2021

-- Strategic planning team meetings, Nov. 9 to Nov. 11

-- Establish action team leaders, December 2021 through February 2022

-- Strategic planning committee to see action team reports and finalizes plan, February 2022

-- Trustees and superintendent incorporate strategic plan, April 2022 and beyond

"I think we're all excited about what the future holds and how we can imagine the world of education for, not only (students at the meeting), but the younger students that are up-and-coming from our elementary campuses," Veal-Gooch said.

The Summit will be held at the TISD Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m.
