Police: Incident carried over from argument at Texas High School

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Police are investigating a homicide at Moores Lane and Sidney Drive that caused lockdowns at two nearby middle schools.

The fatal shooting was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Monday, according to Texarkana Texas Police. A suspect is in custody, said a Texarkana Texas Police spokesman and there is no longer a threat to the community.

No names were immediately available.

The shooting is believed to have carried over from a previous argument at Texas High School.

Police responded to the location Monday afternoon after receiving reports of a male lying in the street.

Pleasant Grove Middle School and Williams Memorial Day School went on lockdown because of the shooting, according to school officials.

PGMS was contacted by the Texarkana Texas Police Department about a shooting that occurred in a nearby neighborhood at about 2 p.m. Monday and was advised to lock down. At 2:34 p.m., PGISD sent an update that the school was no longer on lockdown.

A PGMS front office staffer said that parents do not need to come to the campus and that students are safe.

"The middle school is about two or three blocks away. Initially, since we did not know what was going on, we contacted them," said Shawn Vaughn, spokesman for TTPD.

Williams Memorial heard of the news and as of 2:45 p.m. was not letting anyone in they did not know.
