Texarkana man facing rape charges involving 13-year-old girl

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- A Texarkana man is facing multiple counts of rape involving a 13-year-old girl in Miller County.

David Hight, 37, was arrested Feb. 24 in Polk County, Texas, on charges of failure to identify and harboring a runaway, both misdemeanors. Also served were warrants issued in Miller County for felony domestic battery and terroristic threatening.

Hight allegedly gave a false date of birth to Officer Joshua Watson of the Onalaska Police Department, according to Polk County records. Watson determined Hight's passenger, a 13-year-old girl, had been reported as a runaway in Texarkana. Hight allegedly claimed he had picked her up that morning in Texarkana.

The felony domestic battery and terroristic threatening charges involve alleged misconduct by Hight with a woman March 28, 2020. Last month Hight's bond in those cases was set at $100,000 by District Judge Tommy Potter.

Several days after Hight appeared before Potter for an initial appearance on the domestic battery and terroristic threatening charges, he was back before Potter for an initial appearance on four counts of rape and a count of sexual assault involving the teenager.

Bail on those charges has been set at $250,000, bringing Hight's total bail in Miller County to $350,000. He is currently being held in the Miller County jail.

Hight faces three to 10 years in prison, a fine up to $10,000 or both if convicted of domestic battery. If convicted of terroristic threatening, Hight faces up to six years in prison, a fine up to $10,000 or both.

If found guilty of sexual assault, Hight faces five to 20 years in prison. If convicted of rape, Hight faces 10 to 40 years or life on each of four counts.
