A&M-Texarkana announces cross-country signing, pitcher awards

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas A&M University -Texarkana head cross-country coach Natnael Amare recently announced the signing of Skyler Brannan out of Whitesboro High School in Whitesboro, Texas.

Brannan is a two-time state cross-country runner with a two-mile time of 14:00 and a two-time All-Texoma Land XC nominee. In addition, Brannan is also a two-time state silver medalist in band, two-time bi-district champion in basketball, and a state qualifier in powerlifting.


SOFTBALL

Westberry earns fourth RRAC Pitcher of the Week award

TAMUT’s Anna Westberry collected her fourth RRAC Pitcher of the Week honor for April 4-10.

This is the 10th set of weekly awards for the 2022 softball season.

Westberry piled up three more wins and two shutouts for the Eagles. The sophomore lefty from Mineola, Texas, posted a one-hitter in an 8-0 win over Jarvis Christian College (Texas) while striking out 13. She followed with a five-hit shutout over LSU Alexandria (La.) and a complete game victory over Xavier University (La.), 2-1.

Westberry finished the week with 22 strikeouts over 20.0 innings while allowing 10 hits and one earned run. She holds the conference lead with a 1.02 ERA and she is tied for the top spot in wins with 15.

The 13th-ranked Eagles lead the RRAC East Division at 14-4 with a 30-8 mark overall.


BASEBALL

Moreno is named RRAC Pitcher of the Week

Marcos Moreno of Texas A&M University-Texarkana earned RRAC Pitcher of the Week for April 4-10.

This is the 11th set of weekly honors for the 2022 baseball season.

Moreno tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout to close out the Eagles’ series with Xavier University (La.). The freshman right-hander from Blessing, Texas, allowed only one baserunner on an infield single in the second inning while walking none and striking out four. Moreno is 5-1 on the season with a 2.59 ERA.

TAMU-T lost the series and slipped to 15-9 in the RRAC and 25-17 overall.
