TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s baseball team earned the program’s 200th win with a 5-0 shutout of Louisiana Christian University in Game 1 of a doubleheader at George Dobson Field on Friday.
Game 1 was a 7-inning affair. The Eagles won the 9-inning Game 2, 11-7, after scoring five runs in the eighth inning.
Jordan Izzo (2-1) earned the win in Game 1 as he threw 7 innings, struck out 9, walked 3, and allowed just 3 hits for the Eagles (27-17, 17-9).
Gage Mason (2-2) was the winner of Game 2, tossed 1 2/3 innings, struck out 1 and did not give up any hits or runs.
Hunter Reid, Ryan Peterson and Kyle McMullen each had a double and an RBI in Game 1 for TAMU-T. Brandon Riley jolted in a triple. Peterson went 3 for 3 at the plate, while Riley finished 2 for 3.
Wyat Stavinoha knotted the game at 7-all for the Eagles when he singled back to the pitcher to score N Tamez in the eighth. Riley doubled to left as three runs came across and TAMU-T padded its lead, 10-7. Peterson extended the lead with an RBI single to left field, 11-7.
Jack Skinner scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game for the Eagles in the first frame.
Stavinoha scored on an error in the third to give TAMU-T a 2-1 edge.
Riley scored in the fourth on Peterson’s sacrifice fly RBI and Skinner crunched a 2-run triple to center to put the Eagles up 5-1.
The Wildcats rallied back and took a 7-6 lead after the fifth frame. TAMU-T’s Peterson, who finished 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, drove a long sacrifice fly RBI to right to help bridge the gap in the latter half of the fifth.
The Eagles host Louisiana College today at 11 a.m.
