East Texas Giving Day, for example. For 18 hours on Tuesday, area residents were invited to make online donations to support various nonprofit organizations in the 32-county region served by the East Texas Communities Foundation.
Two dozen of those nonprofits are located in Bowie County and concentrate on education, the arts, health care, providing meals for the needy, battling homelessness and other worthy causes.
This year the effort raised a staggering $2.8 million. In just 18 hours. That's a lot of money and you can bet it will help a lot of people.
There's a lot of bad news out there. We see it every day. It's welcome, then, to find so many willing to do so much good, right here at home.
