HOOKS, Texas -- A suspect in a fatal shooting Saturday is on the run after reportedly stealing a vehicle at gunpoint later in the day near Horatio, Arkansas.
Hector Alejandro Pintor Aguilar, 32, is considered armed and dangerous, Sheriff Jeff Neal said. Investigators are pursuing a warrant for Aguilar's arrest on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
About 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the Sheriff's Office received a call of shots fired at a house on Private Road 82008, just east of the entrance to TexAmericas Center off U.S. Highway 82. At the scene, deputies found an Hispanic male and female with gunshot wounds on the back porch of the house.
Aguilar lived at the house.
The injured people were taken by ambulance to the hospital, where the male, Serafin Garcia-Alanis, 55, of Texarkana, Arkansas, died. The 52-year-old woman, also of Texarkana, remains in stable condition after being treated for multiple wounds, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.
"It appears they were his in-laws," Neal said of Aguilar's relationship to the victims.
Investigators have yet to determine a motive.
Sometime later, the Sheriff's Office was notified that the vehicle Aguilar was believed to be driving had wrecked in Sevier County.
"When a passerby stopped to check on him, he robbed them of their vehicle at gunpoint," the news release states. "He then fled northbound on U.S. Highway 71 in the stolen vehicle."
The vehicle is a white 2005 GMC four-wheel drive truck, lifted and with large wheels. The license plate is AGS 98H.
"The firearm used in this crime has not been recovered and is likely still possessed by the suspect," the news release states.
Anyone who spots the vehicle or Aguilar is asked to call local law enforcement.
