Fouke girls defeat Horatio, 58-46

DONALDSON, Ark. -- Fouke's girls played fundamentally sound basketball as the Lady Panthers knocked off feisty Horatio, 58-46, in first-round action Wednesday in the Ouachita High School Holiday Classic tournament.

Fouke improves to 16-2 overall while the Lady Lions dip to 11-3.

A total of 11 players scored for Fouke, which made 11 3-pointers in the game and was 14 of 14 from the free throw line. The Lions were 18 of 24 from the stripe.

Fouke is coming off a runner-up finish in the prestigious KSA Invitational tournament in Kissimmee, Florida, losing to top-seeded McDowell High School of Erie, Pennsylvania.

Connie Ross led the Panthers with 10 points against Horatio, Laynie Richardson added nine and Logan Smith seven.

Kate Baker topped Horatio with 13 points and Emma Ray added 11.

Horatio trailed by 28-23 at halftime before Fouke pulled away with a 17-10 third-quarter run.

The Panthers will play Baptist Prep (Little Rock) in second-round action at 5 p.m. today.
