Texarkana Council to vote on natural gas provider changes

TEXARKANA, Texas -- During a regular meeting Monday, the City Council will vote on legally switching natural gas providers and transferring the city's nautral gas franchise from one company to another.

On Jan. 10, Summit Utilities announced its purchase of CenterPoint Energy's gas distribution operations in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texarkana, Texas. A pair of ordinances to be voted on Monday would make the change official for the city.

The sale will not result in any rate increases, a Summit executive told the Council during its previous meeting. Municipalities charge utility companies franchise fees in exchange for access to public land and infrastructure.

The Council will also hold public hearings and vote on granting a permit for a manufactured home at 4007 Findley St. and approving a site plan revision for construction at 5609 Richmond Road.

Another public hearing and vote concern authorizing a written agreement for provision of city services to Deaton Place Subdivision, an 11-acre tract off Gin Road, in the event the Council adopts an ordinance annexing the land as requested by its owners.

The Council will vote by consent whether to approve the Texarkana Airport Authority's request for a 40-year ground lease agreement with Flight Solutions LLC, which plans to build three hangars at Texarkana Regional Airport. The Texarkana, Arkansas, Board of Directors approved the lease during its meeting Feb. 7.

The agenda includes an open forum during which members of the public may address the Council on any topic for up to five minutes each.

(The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 220 Texas Blvd. A live video stream will be available via the city's website, ci.texarkana.tx.us.)
