TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Troop G of the Arkansas State Police, based in Hope, Arkansas, will get a new annex building in Texarkana this year.
The old annex building at 305 E. 6th St. mostly serves those seeking driver's licenses. The new facility will offer those services and house offices and operational facilities for various trooper units operating in the region.
"This new facility will be state-of-the-art, for the troopers who work there as well as the citizens seeking to get their driver's licenses and CDLs (commercial driver's licenses)," ASP Lt. Jamie Gravier said. "The new testing facilities will be top-of-the-line and will also feature places for our Criminal Investigation Division, highway patrol, our crimes against children unit and used motor vehicle inspectors. They will still be headquartered out of Hope, but will have additional operational ability in Texarkana."
Gravier said since Texarkana is a major population center, the need for such a facility has become apparent.
Double J Excavation of Fouke, Arkansas, is one of the contractors working on the project. They began work around Thanksgiving and expect it to be completed around September. According to a firm representative, their particular firm does "site work, building pad and demolition."
"We are building a new parking lot, as well as doing work on the new building," he said, adding that it is his understanding the old building will remain on the premises after the new annex is completed.
