Texarkana, Arkansas, school district closes campuses to on-site instruction for next seven days

Protective measure against COVID surge, officials say January 10, 2022 at 1:58 p.m.

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- The Texarkana Arkansas School District announced Monday that all district campuses will be closed starting Tuesday and ending Monday, Jan. 17.

Students will return to campuses on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

"After carefully reviewing our recent COVID-19 isolation and quarantine data as well as consultation with the Arkansas Department of Education and Arkansas Department of Health, the Texarkana Arkansas School District has made the decision to close our schools for on-site instruction," according to a press release from the district.

All students PreK through 12th grade will use Alternative Method of Instruction days, which may include instructional paper packets or digital learning.

"Great care and research went into this decision and we regret the hardships this will cause for some of our families," according to the press release. "However, we believe that this is the right step to take for the health and safety of our families, employees, and the community."

Additional information regarding meal pickup/distribution will follow.

The district has scheduled a special board meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at the TASD Administration building.
