State program offers $1,000 reward in killing of Texarkana doe

TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Texas Wildlife Crime Stoppers program is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed a doe at the entrance to Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

The doe was shot at 2:55 p.m. on June 24, according to a news release from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

The suspect shot the deer from a vehicle in the 7100 block of University Avenue by the entrance to the university.

The person then turned the vehicle around and headed back towards Richmond Road, according to the news release.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call 1-800-792-GAME (4263).

Operation Game Thief, the Texas' Wildlife Crimestoppers Program, was started in 1981 as a result of laws passed by the 67th legislature to help curtail poaching.

The program has been successful, having been responsible for the payment of over $195,000 in rewards.

The program is privately funded and depends on financial support from the public through the purchase of memberships and donations.
