TAMU-T's Izzo posts solid performance in Pecos League

SANTA FE, New Mexico -- Jordan Izzo, who plays baseball for Texas A&M University-Texarkana, threw a shutout on Friday for his Pecos League team, the Garden City Wind, and went 4 for 5 at the plate.

Izzo tossed a complete game, earned the win, allowed four hits, struck out 12 and walked 3 in 9 innings of work for the Wind. He also went 4 for 5 at the dish with a pair of doubles, 4 runs scored, 2 RBI and a walk.

"There were a lot of good defensive plays made behind me and our catcher called a really good game for me," Izzo said. "My team made it easy."

Izzo's pitching arsenal includes a fastball, curveball, slider, changeup and a newly added cutter.

"It was the sixth time we played Santa Fe so we knew what they would be trying to do in the batter's box," Izzo said. "My catcher, Mason McCain, he called the game with inside fastballs, breaking balls and fastballs under their hands. We stuck to that plan throughout the game and Santa Fe never made an adjustment."

Izzo graduated from Horatio High School in Arkansas, where he was a standout baseball player.

The Pecos League is an independent professional baseball league that is headquartered in Houston. Teams are based out of Texas, Kansas, Colorado, California, Arizona and New Mexico.

"I enjoy the like-mindedness of my teammates," Izzo said. "Each player is wanting to move up to the next level and master his craft. I can talk to any guy about baseball or mechanics and I am able to have a good conversation with them."
