EDITORIAL/Sign or Fine: State police will be cracking down on speeding

It's the heart of summer and many will be taking to the roads and highways for a little fun time.

Could be a long road trip to a vacation spot. Possibly just a weekend getaway to a nearby lake or river. Or maybe just a daylong visit to nearby city.

We all love to take a break from everyday worries. So it's understandable that some may be a bit more eager than than should be to reach their destination.

But be aware that could cost you.

The Arkansas State Police is launching their "Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine" campaign on Monday to put a damper on speeding within the state.

The crackdown will continue for the next two weeks.

The goal is to cut down on traffic accidents and fatalities. Motorists should understand that during the campaign, law enforcement will expect drivers to stick to posted speed limits and be accepting any excuses if they don't.

So if your foot gets a bit heavy while driving in the Natural State, think again. At least for the next couple of weeks.
