TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Tax-free weekend is anticipated each year ahead of the start of school.

For Arkansas, the savings event will be Aug. 6-7. Texas gets an additional day of savings, with its event slated for Aug. 5-7.

Single items more than $100 are not eligible. However, the list of items that will be untaxed are plentiful.

The majority of clothing items, makeup and technology items will be tax-free on both sides of the state line. Video games, stereos and televisions are not included.

Arkansas families will save an estimated $2.6 million on purchases of electronic and computer equipment.

Texas' laws are stricter and don't allow for several luxury items, including football pads, golf cleats, laptops, purses and jewelry.

Face coverings will be tax-exempt in Arkansas but not Texas.

In Texas, if taxes are paid on an item that qualifies for tax exemption, the buyer can request a refund, or can fill out form to request a refund. On the Arkansas side, all retailers must participate in the holiday.

Articles may not be separated in order to lower their price under the $100 and $50 thresholds.
