Hogs hold on late to beat Bulldogs

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Old foes of Texarkana American Legion baseball were at it again Tuesday night at George Dobson Field in Spring Lake Park as the Razorbacks and Bulldogs squared off in another classic summer showdown that went down to the last out.

The Razorbacks held on for the 8-6 victory after nine give-and-take innings.

Dylan Spears picked up the win for visiting Hogs after pitching five innings, giving up three runs while scattering five hits.

Malcolm Brown started for the home team and went the first three innings, striking out six and giving up just two runs on three hits. Trapper Golden became the hard-luck losing pitcher of the night as the Razorbacks finally pulled away for good in the fifth inning after breaking a 3-3 tie.

Brock Bearden lead the way for the Bulldogs with a triple and two singles. Brown also had three singles on the night.

The Bulldogs managed to hang around and battled back to load the bases in the bottom of both the eighth and ninth innings before Collin McKenzie picked up the crucial save for the Hogs.

McKenize was 2-4 for the Arkansas-side legion team, Braylon Blair doubled, and Nate Moore had a RBI triple and single.
