TO THE EDITOR:
Watching the January 6th hearings is quite heartbreaking. Not so much because of the crimes Donald Trump and his cronies committed, but because of the way people still support him and believe his lies about the 2020 election. It is incredible to me how a nation of supposedly educated people, can be so deceived by this man. How can you support a man who obviously cannot accept any reality that he himself does not create? How much more evidence do you need that he is delusional?
The only answer the right can come up with is, well, it's a "witch hunt." Or, "I don't care about the hearings, I'm mad about the price of gas." Yes, gas prices are high. The cost of everything is high and that's bad. But you know what's worse? Losing our democracy. Losing our right to vote for someone we choose. If Donald Trump has his way, your vote won't matter anymore, because he is putting players in place, who can change the vote when they don't like the outcome. It's happening in many states as we speak.
I work the local elections sometimes. I enjoy it, because I feel like I'm contributing to our democracy in some small way. The men and women I work with, work hard to see that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner. I would put their integrity and patriotism up against anybody any day of the week. It angers me when I hear Trump say the election was stolen, because he is insulting every one of them who work so hard to see that it wasn't. He disparages innocent people who are only trying to do their job. He encourages his cronies to threaten poll workers. If they are harassed, he shrugs his shoulders. He doesn't care. He only wants to remain in power.
Is this who you want to run our country? Is the price of gas worth your freedom, your integrity or someone's life? Remember, Adolph Hitler promised to fix the German economy in 1930's Germany. We all know how that turned out. Do not let this man or any of the people he endorses win any election or you will be contributing to the demise of this nation.
