TEXARKANA, Ark. -- A man charged in Texarkana federal court with using the internet to entice a 12-year-old girl into sexual activity is serving a state sentence for kidnapping.
Jonathan Tyrell Haney, 34, is named in an indictment unsealed last week in the Texarkana Division of the Western District of Arkansas charging him with coercion and enticement of a girl he met on the internet. A second count of the federal indictment accuses Haney of being in possession of ammunition after being previously convicted of a felony.
Haney is serving a 25-year sentence for kidnapping he received as part of a plea bargain Nov. 29 in Ashley County, Arkansas, circuit court involving the same girl referred to in the federal indictment. Haney met the girl on the internet and picked her up April 12, 2021, according to a search warrant affidavit in the Ashley County case.
Investigators developed Haney as a suspect using information gleaned from a search of the girl's internet activity and made contact with a member of Haney's family in Texas with the help of deputies from the Liberty County, Texas, Sheriff's Office, who developed information that Haney might be living in Hope, Arkansas.
On April 13, 2021, the missing girl was found on the side of the road in Magnolia, Arkansas. A prosecutor's statement in conviction records for Haney in the Ashley County case states Haney picked the girl up and kept her overnight.
Records in the state and federal cases allege sexual misconduct by Haney with the girl.
Haney's federal indictment includes a notice of the government's intent to seek his forfeiture of a Luger semi-automatic pistol and ammunition. Court records show Haney was convicted in 2008 in Hidalgo County of unlawful restraint.
According to Arkansas Department of Corrections, Haney will be eligible for parole from his kidnapping sentence Oct. 14, 2038. Eligibility for parole is not a guarantee parole will be granted.
