EDITORIAL/Free Service: Florida man asks sheriff's office to test his meth for authenticity

What do you do when you think you've been ripped off?

Why, call the police, naturally.

And that's just what one Florida man -- let us say that again, Florida man -- did he he worried a recent purchase wasn't what it was supposed to be.

A man named Thomas Colucci called the Hernando County Sheriff's Office last week to report he had just bought some methamphetamine from a guy he met at a bar and he wasn't getting the high he expected.

Colucci pointed out that he was and "experienced drug user" and "knew what it should feel like." The stuff he bought didn't measure up.

So he wanted the sheriff's office to test the stash and determine if it was really meth or not.

No, we aren't making this up.

The sheriff's office was, of course, more than happy to do so. They headed over to Colucci house and, as it turns out, the substance was indeed meth. And Colucci got a free ride to the hospital for an "evaluation" before scoring free and board at the county jail. He's facing meth and paraphernalia possession charges.

Not letting an opportunity go to waste, the sheriff's office posted on Facebook, "If you, or someone you know, have doubts about the authenticity of any illegal narcotics you have on-hand or have obtained from another person, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office is pleased to provide this service, FREE of charge."

Who knows? Drug users aren't the brightest bulbs in the pack. They might even get some more takers on the offer.
