WINNSBORO, Texas -- Pleasant Grove battles Farmersville in a Class 4A area softball playoff game at 6 p.m. today at Winnsboro High School.

The Lady Hawks are coming off a 2 games to 1 bi-district playoff series win over Henderson. The Lady Farmers swept Athens, 2 games to none.

Pleasant Grove (15-11-4) is the No. 3 seed out of District 15-4A, while Farmersville (20-6) is the No. 1 seed out of District 13-4A.

"They have two good pitchers," Lady Hawks head coach Becca Collom said. "We played them in a tournament this season. If we continue to square the ball up like we have been, then we should be alright.

"In our last series, there was a stark contrast between the first game and the next two. I think we got those playoff jitters out. I thought we came out a little flat in the first game, but we responded big time in the next two. The girls adjusted well to the speed of the pitchers in the Henderson series. I think there is a lot that we can draw from and it helped boost our confidence."

Lexi Snyder, standout pitcher for Pleasant Grove, is 14-7-3, has an earned run average of 2.21 and has struck out 160 batters. Snyder is batting a team-leading .506 with an on-base percentage of .569.

Likely starters for Pleasant Grove are Adi Koller at shortstop, Abby Runion at third, Presley Humphrey at first, MJ Williams at second, Ann Elise Lindsay in left field, Hailey Allen is in right field, Sarah Hackleman behind the plate and Kaylee Gann in center field.

Koller is batting .468, Hargrove is third on the team with a .402, Mackenzie Williams fourth (.392) and Runion is batting .378.

Katelin O'Neal, Lauren Stewart, Taylor Breiby, Gracie Whitecotton and Timia Cooks round out the Hawks roster.

"I think we will be a tough opponent for anybody," Collom said. "The girls are hungry and excited. If we keep our energy up, teams will have to play well to beat us."

The winner plays Mabank or North Lamar in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals next week.
