HENDERSON, Texas -- Liberty-Eylau and Henderson play a home-and-home 4A bi-district series to open the postseason.
Game 1 will be at Henderson today with a 7 p.m. first pitch. Game 2 will be at H.E. Markham Park at 1 Saturday, with the rubber game to follow, if needed.
The Leopards (16-10-1) finished runners-up in District 15-4A, and the Lions (17-8-2) were third in District 16.
"We're playing our best baseball right now," L-E head coach Zach Fowler said. "Henderson is pretty scary; they play in a tough district. It should be a pretty evenly matched series.
"They're athletic and have a couple of good left-handed pitchers. They have a lot of team speed, and so we expect them to be active on the bases."
The Leopards have won 9 of their last 11 games, finishing league play with an 11-4 record. Liberty-Eylau was a regional finalist last spring.
"If we play good defense and pitch well, we'll give ourselves a chance," Fowler said. "We need to execute offensively: get some timely hits with two outs. If we do those things, we should be fine. We're excited to get back into playoff mode. Hopefully, we can make a long run, but we've got to get past Henderson first."
The winner advances to next week's area round to play either Brownsboro or Sunnyvale.
