TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Three students from area schools were given scholarships from Miller County Farm Bureau on Thursday.

The seniors, respectively from Arkansas High School, Genoa Central, and Fouke High School, each received a $1,500 scholarship from the business.

Aiden Simms from AHS received his award at the Farm Bureau's luncheon. He said his counselor Lou Ann Smith supported him through the scholarship application process.

"I plan on going to trade school to be an electrician, and I plan on starting my own business," Simms said.

Former Farm Bureau employee Barbara Sutton started the scholarship in 2004.

"We started at $500 for about six years," Sutton said. "Then we went up to $1,000, then two years ago we went up to $1,500."

Savannah Freeman from Genoa Central High School and Brady Griffith at Fouke High School also received a scholarship, but were unable to attend the presentation due to inclement weather.
