Mom who rammed vehicle faces charges of aggravated assault, injury to child

TEXARKANA, Texas -- A woman accused of ramming a car in which her injured 5-month-old baby was a passenger was indicted last week in Bowie County.

Charquevya Kirkendall, 22, allegedly caused a crash the morning of April 18 in the parking lot of Town North Apartments on Elizabeth Street in Texarkana, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The father of Kirkendall's infant son allegedly noticed injuries to the boy's face April 18 when he went to the apartments to see his son. The father told police the child did not have injuries when he saw him the evening before.

The father and two friends reportedly were taking the child to the hospital to be evaluated when Kirkendall rammed her Honda Element into their vehicle.

The baby allegedly was found to have a healing rib fracture, a skull fracture and a broken arm.

Kirkendall was indicted on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and injury to a child. If convicted of aggravated assault, Kirkendall faces two to 20 years in prison. If convicted of injury to a child, she faces five to 99 years or life in prison.

Kirkendall's bail is set at $200,000 on each count. She remains in the Bowie County jail.

The case is assigned to 102nd District Judge Jeff Addison.
