Leopards take on Brownsboro in area series

by Josh Richert | May 11, 2022 at 10:00 p.m.

WINNSBORO, Texas -- Liberty-Eylau, a regional finalist a year ago, rallied for a pair of wins after facing elimination last week against Henderson.

The Leopards (18-11-1) won the bi-district series 2-1 (loss of 3-2, wins 11-1 and 11-4) and now turn their attention on Brownsboro (20-8) for a 4A area best-of-3 series at Winnsboro High School. The opener is set for 7 p.m. today, with Game 2 at 7 Friday. If the series is tied, a third game will start at 2 Saturday.

"We really had a good performance from our team on Saturday (to win both games); it might've been the best two games we've played all year," L-E head coach Zach Fowler said. "We're playing really good baseball at the right time, and hopefully we can continue to build some momentum in the playoffs. We've had a good week of practice, and we want to just continuing to get better from here."

The Bears edged Sunnyvale, 4-2, 5-9, 6-4, in their bi-district series.

"Brownsboro swings the bats really well," Fowler said. "The throw strikes and play good defense; those are the aspects of a winning ball club. They do all the little things it takes to win games; we're going to have to execute a little better than they do and continue to improve this series. It should be a good one."

The winner faces either Bullard or Canton in the regional quarterfinals next week.
