TEXARKANA -- This month's Downtown Live art event will feature a book signing and live jazz in addition to artists practicing their craft for the public to watch.
Scheduled from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. Friday, the event sponsored by Main Street Texarkana aims to attract visitors downtown for an outdoor art experience.
Karla J. Moore will sign copies of her novel "The Hotel Grim," which will be available for purchase, at Joseph Raymond Fine Art, 214 E. Broad St. Set in the iconic Texarkana hotel, the book blends fantasy and romance in what Moore calls "a fairy tale for adults."
Outside the 1894 Gallery, 105 Olive St., Arkansas High School's three jazz bands will perform and artist Billy Creutz will paint new works. Inside, two shows are opening, Ashley Autrey's "Searching for Center" and a photography exhibition by Abigail Elliott. Also painting will be Jenny Stevens and Rich Art at the corner of Broad and Olive streets.
Food trucks and other vendors will be available, and many downtown retail stores stay open later than usual on Downtown Live nights, Main Street Executive Director Ina McDowell said.
Further Downtown Live events are scheduled for the second Friday of every month through November.
