NASH, Texas -- Owners of a new coffee shop opening next week hope it becomes java lovers' Local Habit.

Coffee connoisseurs Cody Peek and Dr. Joshua Wiggins plan to open Local Habit Coffee Co. on Saturday, May 21, at 330 E. New Boston Road.

The name comes from the goal of making their coffee part of a daily routine, whether that's picking up a cup on the way to work or unwinding with a cup of tea in the evening. Everyone has a place in the shop, Peek and Wiggins said.

Local Habit is in a restored home from the early 1900s featuring original hardwood floors and ceilings, molding and overall structure. The decor ranges from mid-century lighting and seating to deep forest green paint and modern fixtures. Every room has ample seating, including bar stools, couches and comfortable leather chairs.

"They wanted to create a place of community and really great coffee," manager Carington Bright said.

Wiggins attended Texas Coffee School, an intensive training course on the ins and outs of running a coffee shop. He learned the specifics on how to be a barista, how to run the various machines and the science behind coffee and teas.

Some menu items include sparkling teas, honey lavender latte, cold brew and nitro cold brew on tap and Italian sodas. Pastries also will be available.

Local Habit sources coffee beans from Greater Goods Roasting in Austin, "so that's where the good coffee comes from," Bright said.

The owners have a community vision, including having fellowship nights, farmers markets and live music on the outdoor patio.

"The goal is to celebrate what Texarkana has," Bright said. "There are so many great artists and so many great businesses to partner with."

(Local Habit's hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, message Local Habit Coffee Co. on Facebook.)
