TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Texarkana Bowie County Family Health Center is conducting a survey of people who have experienced difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The survey measures experiences such as financial difficulties, physical ailments, mental afflictions or emotional stress.

"I created the survey as a way to get more feedback from the community," Community Health Worker Jacoya Ellis said.

"We're doing focus groups here at the health department, but what I saw with the focus groups is that people aren't used to talking about their burdens out loud, so I created the survey so people could get more personalized when it comes to what they've experienced throughout the pandemic."

According to Outreach Specialist Cheryl Mills, the survey was created through a grant provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which provided the questions.

The survey first asks about the vaccination habits of the survey taker and how often they receive the flu shot. The survey also asks about the taker's medical knowledge and comfort level in reading medical documents pertaining to their health.

"We're looking at these for ways to be better prepared for our future, in the case of a pandemic or a natural disaster," Mills said.

The survey will be open until May 2023 at bit.ly/3a6dsQH.
