Pirates eliminated from playoffs

MARSHALL, Texas -- James Bowie fell to Garrison, 2-1 in eight innings and 19-1, in a baseball playoff Region III-2A semifinal doubleheader at Maverick Field on Friday.

The Pirates ended their season at 19-14 and were co-district champions.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start in Game 2 when they scored 7 runs on no hits in the first. James Bowie walked 3 batters, hit 2 batters and had 3 errors in the frame. Brandon Obenoskey had an RBI single in the bottom part of the inning to put the Pirates on the board, 7-1.

Garrison enjoyed 13 at-bats in the second and scored 9 runs on 7 hits to grab a 16-1 lead. The Bulldogs plated 2 more runs in the fourth and 1 run in the fifth to pad their lead, 19-1.

Gunner Robinson, Slade Burnett, Hunter Reeves and Ethan Morden each singled for James Bowie in Game 2.

DeBerry, who pitched for the Pirates in relief, absorbed the loss. Starter Braiden Klimaszewski tossed 4 innings, struck out 2, walked 3, hit a batter and allowed a hit and no runs.

Robinson smacked a 2-out double down the left field line for James Bowie in the eighth but was left stranded after a groundout.

The Bulldogs landed a runner on first in the eighth after a Pirate error. Garrison's runner moved up to second on a wild pitch and took third on a sacrifice bunt. James Bowie committed a throwing error to third base and the runner scored to give the Bulldogs the 2-1 victory.

Zane Deberry slapped in an RBI single in the fourth to give the Pirates an early 1-0 lead in Game 1. Robinson, who had walked, had a pinch runner, Tyner Melton, who scored on the play.

Garrison knotted it at 1-all in the fifth on an RBI single. Bulldog starting pitcher Alex Slowikowski threw 7 2/3 innings, allowed a run on 2 hits, struck out 12, walked 3 and hit a batter in the no decision.
