ASHDOWN, Ark. — An Ashdown High School of Innovation student has been named a finalist for delegate selection in the 2022-23 U.S. Senate Youth Program.

Bannon Price, a junior, will interview with the selection committee Nov. 14 in Little Rock at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library. Two student delegates and two alternates will be selected from the eight Arkansas finalists and are scheduled to be announced in the month of December.

Each year, the competitive merit-based program provides two high school students from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity with an intensive week-long study of the federal government and the people who lead it. The aim is to engender in delegates a lifelong commitment to public service.

The 61st annual U.S. Senate Youth Program Washington Week is planned for March 4-11, 2023, in Washington, D.C.

The Hearst Foundations, which fund the program and pays student expenses for Washington Week, also will provide each delegate with a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship, with encouragement to continue coursework in government, history and public affairs.

The U.S. Senate Youth Program was created by Senate Resolution 324 in 1962 “to increase young Americans’ understanding of the interrelationships of the three branches of government, learn the caliber and responsibilities of federally elected and appointed officials, and emphasize the vital importance of democratic decision making not only for America but for people around the world.”
