TEXARKANA, Texas -- Family Medical Group of Texarkana will soon open its third location.

The location is set to open Thursday, Dec. 1, at 4105 N. Kings Highway in Texarkana, Texas, previously the location of the Knighton Center.

FMG offers primary care services, as well as occupational health, preventative care and transitional care.

Practice Administrator Michelle Grey said this third location is very much needed, as FMG has seen an increased number of patients and could use the extra space to provide extra care for the community.

"We are busy," she said. "We're getting a ton of new patients, and we've got to have room for them. And we have a good opportunity here to expand and offer our medical services for the community."

FMG will lease the building from Terry Knighton.

"We had been looking at that location and talking about it for a while, and we finally decided to give it a go. It's a great location, so we're looking forward to getting it going," Grey said

Patrick Smith, a nurse practitioner, will be the primary provider for the location. Grey said FMG also hopes to add a second provider at the location in the future.

Michael Chad Elliott, a physician's assistant, will be taking Smith's place at the Seventh Street location in December.

"We will be doing occupational medicine, well visits, sick visits, minor injuries, some lab work -- we also do worker's comp and same-day appointments. And we provide services for basically all ages," Grey said.

Grey said this is a great opportunity for FMG to be able to better meet the needs of Texarkana.

"I think Texarkana is growing," she said. "We want to be able to provide medical services for our community, and we're just happy to have this opportunity," she said.
