New Boston tops Lady Hawks, 57-46

TEXARKANA, Texas -- New Boston led wire-to-wire, but Pleasant Grove made a late push to keep the game from getting out of hand Tuesday.

The Lady Lions' shooters caught fire and built a double-digit lead in the opening minutes, and the visitors held off a late surge by the Lady Hawks to claim a 57-46 win at Hawk Gym.

New Boston shot 37 percent from the floor on 23-of-63 field goals. The Lions had 26 turnovers, compared to 30 by PG.

The Hawks finished shooting 27 percent on 16-of-59 from the floor. Pleasant Grove won the battle of the glass, 50-43.

Keondria Ganaway led all scorers with 18 points for New Boston, and Solai Dorsey added 10 points. Jayla Rowden pulled down 14 boards for the Lions, and Aunisty Dorsey had eight boards.

Adi Koller and Kenasia Henry paced the Hawks with 10 points apiece. Abby Henard had nine rebounds, and Koller and Autumn Crouch added seven boards each.

New Boston started the second half with three quick baskets to establish a 20-point lead, but the Hawks answered with a 7-point run to make it 35-22 with 4:29 left in the third.

Pleasant Grove cut the deficit to 11 points with 2:06 left in the third and got it to 12 points before the end of the quarter. The Lions' 6-point run early in the fourth made it an 18-point lead once again with 6:06 left to play.

With 1:54 remaining, the Hawks cut the margin to 12 points (55-43) again, and with 1:21 left it was a 9-point game. That was as close as Pleasant Grove got and had been since the opening minutes.

The Lions dominated the early minutes and built a commanding 14-0 lead just 3:28 into the game, hitting 6 of their first 8 field goals. New Boston led 18-4 and was up 18-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lions extended their advantage to 25-7 quickly in the second quarter, and the Hawks did not score from the field until 28 seconds remained until intermission. New Boston held a 29-11 lead before Pleasant Grove closed the half with four straight points, entering the locker rooms down 14 points (29-15).

Pleasant Grove won the junior varsity game, 38-7. Carley Rhodes and Iyahnnah Carter scored 10 points apiece for the Hawks
