TEXARKANA, Ark. -- A Fairview Elementary School student and teacher recently were recognized for their artwork at the Miller County Fair.

Fairview students created self-portraits during the first week of school, and their artwork was entered in the competition.

Kindergartener Keisyn White won Best of Show. She used toilet paper rolls and straws to make a tempera print. The work was inspired by impressionist Claude Monet's waterlily series.

Dr. Elisabeth Eaton, Fairview art teacher, also submitted her art and received $250 awarded by the fair association. She will use the funds for Fairview's art program.

Fairview had 250 students submit artwork into the contest. The Miller County Fairground Association awarded each student $1 for participation.
