TEXARKANA, Texas -- A Texas High School band teacher has been arrested and accused of having an improper relationship with a student.

Brandon Neil Sams, 46, was arrested Friday on charges of improper relationship between an educator and student, tampering with evidence and evading arrest with a vehicle, according to Bowie County jail records. He is being held in the Bi-State Jail with a total bail of $70,000.

The TISD Police Department was the arresting agency. Sams was fired from Texarkana ISD on Monday, district spokesman Todd Marshall said.

TISD is cooperating with investigators, he said.

"TISD's foremost priority is to protect our students' physical, social and emotional well-being at all times," Marshall said.

He said the district could not comment further because the investigation is ongoing.

According to TISD's tigertimesonline.com, Sams worked with the Texas High color guard beginning in 2019.

On the district's website he is listed as a band instructor.
