TEXARKANA, Texas -- Local chef Tyler Standridge will teach the continuing education baking course Creative Focaccia on Thursday.
Students will learn how to make the classic flat Italian bread and acquire new baking tricks and techniques from the course.
"Focaccia is very fluffy and easy to make, and extremely delicious," Standridge said.
Standridge graduated with a certificate in culinary arts from Texarkana College in 2021 but has been in the industry since he was 16. He is a sous chef at Twisted Fork in Texarkana, where he works full time.
"I've cooked all my life, and it's something I've always been interested in and loved doing," Standridge said.
This is his first time teaching a course at Texarkana College, and Standridge hopes to teach more classes there in the future.
"I love teaching and it's important for the community to know how to make these simple and inexpensive dishes for their families," he said.
Two more classes are already scheduled for Oct. 13 and Nov. 10. Classes will be held in the evening and should last a few hours, depending on the course.
(Creative Focaccia is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 15 in the upstairs kitchen of the Truman Arnold Student Center at Texarkana College.
