TEXARKANA, Texas -- Pleasant Grove used every play in its playbook and finally put Beckville away in five sets.
The Lady Hawks rallied for a 25-15, 21-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-6 victory Tuesday at Hawk Gym.
The Hawks scored five in a row quickly in the fifth set and then closed the game and match on a 7-point run.
Adi Koller and Julianne Naples Each smacked 11 kills to lead PG, and Madison Carpenter had 19 service points. Rylie Williams added five kills and a block, Koller had three blocks and Naples two, and Reese Gibbs contributed five blocks and three kills.
Pleasant Grove used an early 5-0 run to grab the momentum and, after Beckville pulled within one point (8-7), the Hawks rattled off 10 straight points to build an 18-7 advantage.
The Lady Cats were never able to recover, managing a 6-1 run once to cut their deficit to single digits twice the rest of the opening game.
The second set was a see-saw scrap with neither team able to build much momentum -- the visitors going on a 5-point run but answered by PG's 5-0 rally -- and the score was tied for the 11th time at 21-all after the Hawks' 3-0 run.
Beckville followed the sideout with a 4-point streak to claim the second game and knot the match.
Pleasant Grove scored five in a row early to go up 8-3 in the third before the Lady Cats cut it to a point three times. However, the Hawks scored three and stretched that into an 8-2 rally before claiming the third set.
Beckville grabbed the advantage and led much of the fourth set after an early 5-0 run. PG, which trailed by seven twice, climbed back to within two (19-17) but never was able to get the score even as the Bearcats sent the match into a fifth set.
