TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is planned for Oct. 15 at Spring Lake Park.

The walk is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's disease care, support and research, according to a news release from the Alzheimer's Association.

On walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer's with the Promise Garden ceremony. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people's connection to Alzheimer's and their personal reasons to end the disease.

The walk site opens at 8 a.m., and the opening ceremony is at 9 a.m. The walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Spring Lake Park is at 4303 N. Park Road.

While plans are moving forward to host the Texarkana Walk in person, the health and safety of participants, staff and volunteers remain the top priorities, according to the news release.

The Alzheimer's Association will continue to closely monitor CDC, state and local guidelines to ensure walk events adhere to the latest recommendations.
