TEXARKANA, Texas -- Mineola High School marched away with top honors in Pleasant Grove High School's annual band invitational Saturday at Hawk Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets Band was named grand champion out of the 11 competing schools. They also received Overall Outstanding Color Guard and Overall Outstanding Percussion.

Second place went to Redwater, third to Queen City, fourth to Winnsboro, fifth to Liberty-Eylau and sixth to Quitman.

"We had so many talented area bands perform in some very tough conditions with the high temperatures," said Jay Sutton, PG band director.

The competition marked the fourth year for PG to host the meet. The Hawks' Pride in Motion band performed an exhibition Saturday morning before the start of the contest.

Sutton said the invitational serves as an annual tune-up for the student musicians.

"Every band had a great performance and received some really good comments from our judges to help them continue preparing their shows as they being their competitive seasons," he said.

The other participating schools were Arkansas High, Hooks, Linden-Kildare, Mount Vernon and Prairiland.
