Hooks shut out Prairiland in 8th grade game

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texas High finds ways to pull out tough volleyball wins, and Friday's match against Mount Pleasant was no exception.

Texas High took it to the limit, going the full 5 sets to defeat league foe Mount Pleasant in the THS Tiger Center. THS won, 25-19, 25-21, 25-27, 23-25, 15-8.

The hosts were led by Bella Cherry (23 kills, 27 assists, 20 digs, 17 points), Cy Hopkins (17 kills, 33 assists, 13 digs, 22 points), Mally Lumpkin (15 kills, 19 digs, 25 points) and Kyleigh Perkins (18 digs, 18 points).

Carlyn Clack also contributed 26 digs and 14 points and Taryne Stiger 18 points for the District 8-5A winners.

Texas JV1 defeated MP, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, behind Caroline Taylor's 14 service points.

The hosts also won the JV2 match, 25-18, 25-19, with Sanaa Neal serving 12 points.



PG jayvees win pair

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Pleasant Grove's junior varsity tennis team posted a pair of victories over Arkansas High and No. 1 ranked Hot Springs Lakeside.

The Hawk JV beat the Razorbacks, 20-6, and Lakeside, 13-10, Thursday on the Pleasant Grove courts.

"It is always interesting to play different teams and this was our first time playing the top-ranked Arkansas team Lakeside. Arkansas High is always a challenge and I am proud of our tennis Hawks' efforts today representing Texas tennis," said Pleasant Grove tennis coach Erik Pickett.

Hooks posts shutout

HOOKS, Texas -- Hooks defeated Prairiland in eighth-grade football action Thursday, 28-0.

The Hornets (3-1 overall) are 2-0 in district play.

KJ Gaston rushed for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a 2-point conversion.

Kavon Stiger had a pair of touchdowns. He had a 65-yard rushing touchdown and a 45-yard passing touchdown to Jimmy Asher. He also had a 2-point conversion.

Caden Mobley forced a fumble on defense, and Cooper Eaves recovered the fumble for the Hornets.

Prairiland won the seventh-grade contest, 24-22.

Hooks (3-1, 1-1) was led by Luke Baysinger with three rushing touchdowns. Trenton Hanes added a pair of 2-point conversions.

Grady Grant played well on defense, and had a handful of tackles for a loss.
